Clan Grant is one of Scotland’s most historic Highland clans, long associated with the ancient province of Strathspey. Renowned for steadfast loyalty, military service, and strong leadership, the Grants played a significant role in shaping the Highlands and the wider history of Scotland.

From medieval origins to a global presence today, Clan Grant has endured through centuries of change while maintaining a strong sense of identity, kinship, and pride.

A message from the Chief of Clan Grant 2026

Greetings and best wishes to all fellow Grants in Canada.

Canada has a special significance for me, as a Baronet of Nova Scotia – a title bestowed upon my forebears, who helped fund an early settlement mission in 1625, by King James 1st of England and 6th of Scotland.
I attended a 400-year Anniversary Celebration at Stirling Castle last July, which included a series of lectures about the Mission, early settlers and the present day.  The Baronetcy allows me to call myself Sir Michael Grant of Grant.
I also have a Barony, being Lord Strathspey, which takes precedence as the senior title and is therefore my normal form of address.
However, the Chieftainship of the Clan is my most significant position. My mission is to support our Clan worldwide, increase global participation in events and history, developing and sustaining our bond of kinship.
I helped my late father set up the International Societies in the 1980s and am now following his footsteps in my various trips abroad and Clan activities.
Life is now so very different, the internet and social media bringing instant connectivity, and the sharing of ideas and events as they happen. This necessitates a change in the way our Societies are run, both nationally and globally, embracing the new era.
Personal contact remains all important and thankfully meeting together, whether at a Gathering, Games or just socially remains key, the new technology simply making all such arrangements easier to set up and manage.
I would like to pay tribute to all that Anita and Gordon Grant Steel have done in the past for our Society in Canada. In tandem, welcome her nephew Donald Grant and Jason Grant, who have the skillset to bring about the change, steering the Society into a new era.
They have my sincere thanks, best wishes and full support.
Canada is not alone, our Societies in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand are all re-starting and evolving in a similar manner. We have agreed to set up a global website and a digital historical archive for all to share, access and enjoy, which is in due process.
I work closely with all those involved in the Societies, trying to help bring about the changes, expand our “offering” and reach out to members, both old and new, embracing the spirit and bond of Kinship.
I am honoured to be the Games Chieftain at the Highland Games in Melbourne on 29 March, having done the same at Bundanoon near Sydney last year, helping Troy Grant and his team re-establish our Society in Australia.
We are joining Clan Hunter in a Bond of Friendship with other Clans at Hunterston Castle in Scotland on 24 July, which is evolving into a quite significant event, as more clans join in the ceremony.
Our own Gathering in Scotland will take place from 7-13 August in Grantown on Spey, including the Abernethy Games on 8th and the Grantown Show on 13th. A full Programme will be posted shortly – you are all most welcome!

I feel blessed to work with our great Clan Grant Society teams around the world.

Standfast Craigellachie!
Your Chief,
Michael, Lord Strathspey
